When it comes to wearing perfume, how you wear it is just as important as what it smells like. If you’re feeling a little stuck on how to best apply and wear your favorite fragrances, we’re here to help. Here are our favorite tips on how to wear perfume.
1. Mind Your Pulse Points
If you’re wondering where to spray your perfume, focus on your pulse points. These areas are where your veins sit closest to the skin, such as the inside of your wrists, elbows and below the belly button. Pulse points are naturally warm and moist, emitting body heat that naturally helps to diffuse a scent.
To apply perfume to your pulse points, spritz or dab it on a few (or all!) of them and your fragrance will linger all day long.
2. Store It Correctly
Did you know that how and where you store your perfume will help it last longer? Keep them in a dark place without any direct sunlight that has a stable temperature, avoiding areas like bathrooms that can be warm or damp. Some great places to keep them include closets, shelves or vanity tables. You can also keep them in their original boxes for added protection.
3. Add a Spritz to Your OOtD
Want to really keep your scent lasting all day long? Spritz a bit on your clothes (as long as it’s not a piece that can stain like silk)! You can spray some perfume in the air and wave your clothing through it or add a bit to the inner lining of a coat or jacket for a light scent that will travel with you anywhere you go. But do note - fragrance can react differently with fabric than with skin, so the fragrance may be a bit different on your clothes.
4. Add it to Your Post-Shower Routine
Did you know that the best time to apply perfume for long-lasting effects is right after the shower, not when you’re heading out the door? When your skin is warm and your pores are open post-shower, the scent will permeate more and last longer.
5. Try a Fragrance Cloud
Try spritzing the air and then walking through it to feel really immersed in the fragrance, but make sure that you don’t inhale.
6. Don’t Rub - Dab
Many of us are tempted to rub our perfume into our skin. However, it’s better for it to sit on the skin to mix with natural oils. Rubbing can also cause top notes to fade and evaporate at a more rapid pace.
7. Skip the Hair Spritz
Many fragrances contain alcohol-based formulas, which can dry out and damage hair. However, if you have a non-alcohol based scent, feel free to give your hair a spritz!
8. Go Solid, Then Liquid
Apply your solid perfumes before spraying on Eau de Parfum - the wax in a solid perfume will better hold the fragrance for a long-lasting scent.
